Launching of CARI at the World Economic Forum, DAVOS

Date: January 20, 2017
Domain:

Her Excellency Mrs. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim chaired a multilateral session on the Coalition for African Research and Innovation (CARI). An alliance of African science leaders and international funders has joined to catalyse greater investment in research that underpins the health-food-water nexus (including agriculture, climate change, zoonosis, urban health and sanitation) through a process initiated at Davos 2017.
By floating this initiative at Davos, the alliance will engage African governmental leaders, the private sector and philanthropists, who can support and drive greater research leadership and innovation. During 2017 the CARI Steering Group (AESA, BMGF, NIH and Wellcome) will develop a road map and business plan informed by the experience of other World Economic Forum-supported initiatives including the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Initiative (CEPI).
