An honour to have been part of two significant milestones in Mauritius’ ongoing journey toward inclusive, knowledge- based transformation last week:
1. The 2025 Distance Education and Teachers’ Training in Africa (DETA) Conference, hosted by the Mauritius Institute of Education, in partnership with the University of Pretoria and the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE).
This year’s theme — “Education for Empowering the Global South: Technologies and Pedagogies for Distance Teacher Education” — invited critical reflections on how innovation, technology, and collaboration are reshaping education across the Global South and the African continent.
2. The Award Ceremony for the “Advanced Food Processing” training, led by the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Mauritius, in collaboration with F.A.L.C.O.N and supported by the National Social Inclusion Foundation (NSIF).
Together with Dr the Hon. Arvin Boolell, Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, we celebrated 35 participants from across Mauritius who completed this hands-on training.
A testament to the transformative power of grassroots capacity-building in enhancing food security, economic resilience, and social equity for our country.
Mauritius may be a small island, but we think and act with a continental vision.
Together, we must continue to invest in our people, expand access to knowledge, and build an inclusive and empowered future for all.
