

President Dharambeer Gokhool welcomed representatives of Lakaz A, notably:
- Mr Cadress Rungen,
- Miss Pooba Essoo,
- Miss Maryline Etiennette, and
- Miss Chantal Yap,
for an in-depth exchange on the national response to the drug crisis in Mauritius, at the State House.
Conversations centered on:
- The current landscape of drug-related challenges in Mauritius and the various preventive and curative measures being implemented at both governmental and community levels;
- Ongoing prison rehabilitation programs, aimed at reintegrating incarcerated individuals into society with dignity, skills, and a renewed sense of purpose;
- A review of the network of rehabilitation centres operating across the country, and the need to enhance their capacity, accessibility, and effectiveness;
- Strategies to empower families affected by drug dependency—equipping them with the knowledge, support systems, and resilience to care for their loved ones and contribute to the recovery process.
President Gokhool also expressed his appreciation for the tireless work of Lakaz A and similar civil society organizations which are on the frontline of this crucial fight.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the State to adopt a compassionate, inclusive, and coordinated approach in addressing the root causes of drug abuse and promoting rehabilitation as a path to transformation and hope.
