His Excellency Mr Tomáš Uličný, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K., President of the Republic, at State House yesterday morning.
He was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Petra Ulična, and the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic to Mauritius, Mr Gulshan Jugroo.
During the meeting, President Gokhool reviewed and reaffirmed the longstanding relations between the two countries, which are friendly and cordial.
At the multilateral level, the strong engagement of both Mauritius and the Czech Republic as members of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), as well as the shared commitment to enhancing cooperation within the framework of the European Union, were on the discussion agenda.
On the bilateral front, the positive momentum, marked by several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) already signed and others currently under discussion, were reviewed. Conversations also centered on the potential advancement of a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), which will further boost economic cooperation and investment opportunities.
The two dignitaries also explored avenues for stronger cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest, notably: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Tourism, Education, Sustainable Energy and FinTech.
The possibility of establishing a bilateral political consultation mechanism, which would serve as a platform to develop affordable, concrete, and mutually beneficial initiatives in a range of priority sectors, was also talked about.
