His Excellency Mr. George Psiachas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K, President of the Republic of Mauritius, at State House yesterday.
The longstanding, cordial bilateral and multilateral relations, anchored in shared values, mutual respect, and international cooperation, were reviewed.
The two dignitaries also exchanged reflections on the socio-economic resilience of the Hellenic Republic, which offers valuable lessons as Mauritius continues to navigate current economic challenges.
In addition, Greece’s rich expertise in areas such as ocean economy, fisheries, maritime security, shipbuilding and regional trade, was welcome in order to further consolidate Mauritius’ development in these key strategic sectors.
The potential for enhanced collaboration as regards digital transformation and innovation, a high priority on Mauritius’ national agenda, was also discussed.
During the meeting, President Gokhool and Ambassador Psiachas exchanged views on additional opportunities for collective growth by deepening people-to-people connectivity and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as strengthening the Hellenic Republic’s engagement with the African continent through Mauritius as a strategic gateway.
In this context, a proposal for the development of a bilateral consultative mechanism to foster structured dialogue and concrete cooperation initiatives is under consideration.
