


Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Pierre, British High Commissioner to Mauritius, paid a farewell call to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K, President of the Republic of Mauritius, this morning at the State House.
She was accompanied by British Deputy High Commissioner Mr Goran Mondic.
During the meeting, bilateral ties, which are longstanding and cordial, were reviewed.
The significant trade relations between Mauritius and the UK, with the UK being our 4th largest export partner, were also discussed.
With collaboration extending beyond trade, strategic partnerships in key sectors such as education to position Mauritius as a centre for excellence, where UK university campuses in Mauritius and scholarship opportunities by the British Government have benefited many Mauritian students, were talked about.
Conversations also centered on the crucial area of climate change, with the UK’s commitment towards helping Mauritius raise climate funding and improve policies, especially through the Pioneering Climate and Health Fund and the Climate Finance Unit.
President Dharambeer Gokhool and High Commissioner Ms. Charlotte Pierre also exchanged views on international relations and challenges of conflicts around the world, underscoring the importance of cooperation and dialogue in addressing these issues.
The President of the Republic of Mauritius expressed gratitude to Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Pierre for her continued efforts in consolidating and strengthening important relations between the UK and Mauritius, and expressed hope that bilateral ties will continue to deepen with the arrival of the new British High Commissioner.
