H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K. welcomed Mr. Raj Ramrachia and Mrs. Shalinee Peerty, Chairman-Founder and Director respectively of the Cancer Association Mauritius (CANMA) – a non-profit organisation committed to promoting cancer awareness and fostering a healthier society through advocacy- for a courtesy visit at the State House yesterday .
During the meeting, the President of the Republic took note of the Association’s mission overview and activities, notably a men’s health Awareness Week, a Cancer Walk; screening and support services, as well as the contribution of a team of doctors and specialists who support the association in delivering these essential services to the community.
President Gokhool further took note of the Association’s self-financing model, including its fundraising initiatives such as Miss India Worldwide Mauritius, which sustain their impactful programmes.
In view of its increasing prevalence among the Mauritian population, with cancer being the third leading cause of death after diabetes and heart disease, President Gokhool highlighted the need to strengthen multistakeholder collaboration and unify efforts in addressing this major national health challenge.
