Memorable and happy moments spent in Chinatown yesterday morning during the inauguration of the Soong Ching Ling (Mauritius) Foundation Library — the first dedicated reading space for children and youth in this vibrant part of our capital.
I thank all volunteers and members of the foundation and the Chinatown community for this laudable initiative.
This project is living symbol of what we can achieve when we come together with heart, purpose, and a shared vision for our children.
We must continue to nurture a culture of reading, writing, imagination, originality and reflection — both offline and online – in this age of constant digital evolution and noise.
I invite the organizers to transform the library into a Human Library that goes beyond the love for reading and provides opportunities for rich human interactions, exchanges of stories and experiences, and that promotes intercultural understanding and harmony.
