During his meeting with members of the Small Farmers Welfare Fund at the State House today, notably with Mr Mahendrah Goondiah, Chairperson of the Fund, the President of the Republic exchanged views on existing schemes that support food security.
Ways to foster greater involvement in farming and cattle breeding among prospective farmers, and strategies to promote the use of green technology in agriculture, were also elaborated.
In addition, President Dharambeer Gokhool discussed the means to ensure that prices of fruits and vegetables are maintained within reasonable levels in order to alleviate the economic burdens of consumers.
The need to promote the welfare of the farming community and improving the quality of life of farmers, was also highlighted.
