International Day for Monuments and Sites 2025

To mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites – celebrated every year on 18th April around the world- the State House opened its doors to the public today.
His Excellency interacted with people from all ages and backgrounds, including non-Mauritians, who have taken a great interest in the history of the Château de Réduit and the exhibition of items of historical interest.
This initiative of the National Heritage Fund (NHF) under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, aims to celebrate cultural heritage, raise awareness and highlight the need for conservation efforts. His Excellency thank Hon’ Mahend Gondeea, Minister of Arts and Culture; Mr Ricardo Lalande, Chairperson of the NHF, and Ms Minakshi Thannoo, Director of the NHF, for their efforts.
19 sites across the island are open this weekend to the public, including the State House, a historical landmark holding national heritage value.
Similar visits will be arranged in the future, particularly during school holidays, to allow greater access of the public to the State House.
