His Excellency Mr. Philip Richard Hewitt, High Comissioner of New Zealand, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K., President of the Republic, at the State House this morning.<\/div><\/div>
He was accompanied by his spouse, Ms. Romchalee Kanokngamwitroj, and the Honorary Consul of New Zealand in Mauritius, Mr. Gilbert Liu Man Hin.<\/div><\/div>
During the meeting, the long-standing, cordial diplomatic ties between the two nations, established since 1968 and which continue to be defined by shared democratic values, a mutual commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and respect, were reviewed.<\/div><\/div>
The two dignitaries also explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation in critical sectors, notably sustainable development, aquaculture, the Blue Economy, food safety, and biosecurity.<\/div><\/div>
Particular emphasis was laid on combating plastic pollution, keeping in mind New Zealand\u2019s expertise in tackling the issue.<\/div><\/div>
Conversations also centered on the education sector, particularly a mutual interest in fostering academic exchange via the potential establishment of higher educational institutions by New Zealand in Mauritius.<\/div><\/div>
The possibility of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement to stimulate economic growth and trade, as well as strategies to strengthen people-to-people ties through enhanced visa facilitation, cultural exchange, and greater mobility between citizens of Mauritius and New Zealand, were elaborated.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
