His Excellency Mr. Paul Brummell, C.M.G., accredited Representative and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mauritius, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K, President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House this morning.<\/div><\/div>
He was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Adriana Brummell, and His Excellency Mr. Goran Mandic, the Deputy British High Commissioner.<\/div><\/div>
Both sides reviewed longstanding diplomatic ties and discussed ways to strengthen collaboration across key sectors such as maritime security, trade and investment, climate finance, as well as education.<\/div><\/div>
Discussions on the need to improve the standard of English in the Mauritian public school system were welcomed by High Commissioner Paul Brummell.<\/div><\/div>
Conversations also centered on the historic UK-Mauritius treaty granting Mauritius full sovereignty over the Chagos Islands including Diego Garcia; a significant step forward in taking bilateral relations between Mauritius and the UK to a new and strategic level.<\/div><\/div>
The spirit of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in these discussions was noted as a foundation for enhanced collaboration.<\/div><\/div>
The two dignitaries reviewed the Mauritius\u2013UK Strategic Trade Partnership Agreement; the importance of Mauritius as a gateway to Africa in trade and investment, and the need to ensure the effective implementation of the comprehensive Strategic Partnership Framework.<\/div><\/div>
The Framework contains numerous proposals which offer key convergence points for further UK-Mauritius cooperation, keeping in mind the Government Programme 2025-2029 and the Digital Transformation Blueprint, and holds the prospect of defining a new era of bilateral relations.<\/div><\/div>
During the exchange, President Gokhool extended best wishes to His Majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family, as well as to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, The Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of former British High Commissioner Ms. Charlotte Pierre in advancing UK\u2013Mauritius relations.<\/div><\/div>
