His Excellency Mr. Benedicto Fonseca Filho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House yesterday.<\/div><\/div>
He was accompanied by Mr. Charles Paul Luc Harel, Honorary Consul of Bazil to Mauritius.<\/div><\/div>
During the meeting, the longstanding diplomatic relations, formally established in 1974 and which have since remained cordial, friendly, and characterised by shared values, were reviewed.<\/div><\/div>
Discussions were held regarding the formulation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, aimed at broadening the framework of cooperation between Mauritius and Brazil.<\/div><\/div>
The two dignitaries took note of the Joint Working Group currently engaged in finalising a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance scientific collaboration and strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as sugar production, food security, and agro-industrial development, including possible cooperation in the poultry and meat products trade.<\/div><\/div>
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore potential avenues for further collaboration in key sectors of mutual interest, such as health, bilateral air services – for which discussions are underway -trade relations, tourism, and cultural exchanges, with a particular emphasis on eco-tourism and conservation projects.<\/div><\/div>
President Gokhool highlighted Mauritius\u2019 position as a strategic gateway for the Brazilian business community to African trade blocs, particularly within SADC, COMESA, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).<\/div><\/div>
In light of Brazil hosting the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Bel\u00e9m later this year, President Gokhool and Ambassador Fonseca Filho reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations -as members of the Group of 77 (G-77) – to promoting South-South cooperation.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
