The President of the French Republic, His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., at the State House yesterday.<\/div><\/div>
Discussions focused on the overall situation in Mauritius and France, as well as the major challenges and opportunities facing both countries.<\/div><\/div>
Both Heads of State reviewed the longstanding cooperation between France and Mauritius, and explored avenues to further strengthen existing collaboration.<\/div><\/div>
President Gokhool commended President Macron for his proactive leadership on global issues, notably in food security, energy policy, responsible AI development, and the promotion of national dialogue.<\/div><\/div>
The President of the Republic of Mauritius also reiterated his commitment to advancing support for persons with special needs and welcomed France\u2019s readiness to assist in health-related initiatives, including telemedicine.<\/div><\/div>
The two leaders discussed the importance of preserving French historical patrimoine and shared cultural heritage in Mauritius.<\/div><\/div>
President Gokhool recalled the history of the Chateau de R\u00e9duit – conceived in the mid-18th century by French Governor Barth\u00e9lemy David and later restored by successive French governors – as a key symbol of French heritage on Mauritian soil.<\/div><\/div>
An insignia ceremony was also held at the State House, in the presence of both dignitaries and the Hon. Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam.<\/div><\/div>
\u2022 President Dharambeer Gokhool was elevated to the rank of Grand Officier de la L\u00e9gion d\u2019honneur.<\/div>
\u2022 President Emmanuel Macron received the distinction of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (G.C.S.K.).<\/div>
\u2022 The Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchadra Ramgoolam, was elevated to the rank of Grand-Croix de la L\u00e9gion d\u2019honneur.<\/div><\/div>
