It was a distinct honour to address a distinguished gathering over the weekend to pay tribute to Dunputh Lallah, on the occasion of the centenary commemoration of his historic election to the Legislative Council on 22 January 1926 alongside Rajcoomar Gujhadhur.<\/div><\/div>
A pioneer of our political history, he embodied the enduring values of equity, inclusion, social justice, and unity.<\/div><\/div>
His election marked a defining moment in the political evolution of Mauritius, affirming the dignity and resilience of those who had long been excluded from representation.<\/div><\/div>
I also had the opportunity to read “Dunputh Lallah: Walking with Kings, Standing for the Voiceless”, written by his great-grandson, Pravesh Lallah.<\/div><\/div>
An important account that serves as a living bridge between generations and a powerful reminder that collective memory remains essential to nation-building.<\/div><\/div>
Solicitor, legislator, and mentor, Dunputh Lallah firmly believed in a Mauritius where equality would prevail and where every citizen, regardless of race, background, or creed, could aspire to the very best that life has to offer.<\/div><\/div>
The school that bears his name in Curepipe stands today as a living tribute to his belief in education and service to future generations.<\/div><\/div>
We rise by lifting others.<\/div><\/div>
