His Excellency Mr Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to the Republic of Mauritius, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at State House this morning.<\/div><\/div>
The High Commissioner was accompanied by his spouse and will be based in New Delhi, India.<\/div><\/div>
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the longstanding and cordial bilateral relations, established in 2003 and rooted in shared values.<\/div><\/div>
President Gokhool and High Commissioner Sami also explored the vast scope for strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and climate resilience – particularly in addressing the shared vulnerabilities faced by island nations, with opportunities for expanding exchanges in sugar sector also being evoked.<\/div><\/div>
The similarities between the two island states, including historical and cultural parallels, were highlighted. In this regard, emphasis was placed on deepening cultural and educational exchanges to further strengthen people-to-people ties.<\/div><\/div>
Conversations also centred on the importance of the \u201cOcean of Peace\u201d concept advanced by Fiji, which promotes regional stability, peaceful cooperation, and collective approaches to security and development challenges in the Indo-Pacific.<\/div><\/div>
President Gokhool welcomed Fiji\u2019s initiative, particularly following the 9th Indian Ocean Conference held in Mauritius from 10-12 April 2026, which focused on \u201cCollective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.\u201d<\/div><\/div>
