President Gokhool received Dr the Hon’ Mrs. Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, for a fruitful discussion on the development trajectory of the financial services sector — a strategic pillar of the Mauritian economy, contributing approximately 25% to the national GDP (direct and indirect) and employing over 36,000 individuals – and the path to reinforcing the country’s role as a leading international financial centre.
The progress on key initiatives and upcoming projects was also reviewed. President Gokhool and Minister Jeetun exchanged views on the Strategic Plan 2025–2030, which aims to reposition the financial services sector, move global business activities further up the value chain, attract foreign investment, and enhance job creation.
The President of the Republic also welcomed Hon’ Kevin Lukeeram, Hon’ Tony Apollon, Hon’ Shridhur Jugurnauth and Hon Ashley Ramdass, MPs for consituencies No. 12 (Mahebourg- Plaine Magnien), No. 14 (Savanne- Black River), and No. 11 (Vieux Grand Port- Rose Belle) respectively.
The meeting enabled constructive dialogue on the progress of ongoing development initiatives, as well as the needs, aspirations, and challenges of constituents. Pressing concerns such as drug abuse and broader societal challenges were also discussed.
