High Commissioner of Rwanda Pays Courtesy Call on President Gokhool

His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Hategeka, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Mauritius, with residence in Pretoria, South Africa, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House this morning.
He was accompanied by Mr. Didas Mungarurire, First Counsellor at the Rwanda High Commission in Pretoria, and Mr. Nikesh Patel, Honorary Consul of Rwanda in Mauritius.
During the meeting, diplomatic ties between Mauritius and Rwanda, which have been established since 2001, were reviewed. Views were also exchanged on existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), notably the Double Taxation Treaty Agreement (DTTA) and the setting up of a Joint Commission in the near future.
Efforts are currently underway to renew these agreements in order to further strengthen collaboration.
In addition, the dignitaries explored new areas of cooperation in key sectors, including financial services, investment, climate change resilience, information technology, and air connectivity.
Discussions highlighted potential collaborations between the Economic Development Board of Mauritius and Rwandan authorities.
The possibility of enhancing cooperation between the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius and Rwandan counterparts in trade and commerce, was also addressed.
This courtesy visit to President Gokhool follows the presentation of High Commissioner Mr. Hategeka’s Letter of Credence to former President Prithvirajsing Roopun on 17th September 2024, marking an important milestone in the continued strengthening of the bilateral relationship between Mauritius and Rwanda.
In light of current regional challenges, President Gokhool emphasized the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both bilateral and multilateral efforts must continue in order to achieve lasting peace and regional stability, he affirmed.
