President Dharambeer Gokhool and Mrs Brinda Gokhool warmly graced the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Chisty Shifa Clinic at Taher Bagh Hall this Wednesday evening, 8th of April 2026, in the presence of stakeholders, healthcare professionals, community representatives, and other distinguished guests.
In his address, President Gokhool paid tribute to the founders of the clinic, including the late Dr Hassam Gareeboo, the First Chairman of the Islamic Medical Trust, and commended the long-standing service and leadership of Dr Dawood Oaris, Medical Director.
He also highlighted the clinic’s important role in combining medical care with community outreach, particularly its collaboration with the Mauritius Muslim Orphanage by offering consultations and treatment free of cost to residents, while extending affordable services to vulnerable patients across the wider community.
President Gokhool further recognised the vital contribution of the Oaris family, including family members who are themselves engaged in the medical profession, sustaining a strong culture of service and continuity.
Reflecting on the broader healthcare landscape, the Head of State emphasised the need to shift towards prevention and health promotion.
He underscored that individual responsibility remains central, as our daily choices related to diet, physical activity, and lifestyle ultimately shape the health of our nation.
