Ambassador of Vietnam presents credentials to President Gokhool

Her Excellency Mrs Tran Thi Thu Thin, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, presented her credentials to His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K, President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House today.
 
Bilateral relations, which are longstanding and friendly, were reviewed.
The two dignitaries also explored avenues to further deepen strategic partnership in view of significant untapped potential to enhance trade relations, with Mauritius serving as a strategic gateway to the African continent for Vietnamese enterprises.
 
Opportunities for the entry of Mauritian products into the ASEAN market of 500 mn were also discussed.
With Vietnam’s proven expertise in aquaculture and fish exports, the consolidation of this vital sector in Mauritius through the potential signing of a future Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the existing cooperation in other key areas such as pharmaceuticals, information technology, tourism, education, and agriculture, were also on the discussion agenda.
During the meeting, President Gokhool expressed gratitude to Vietnam for its steadfast support of Mauritius’ legitimate efforts to achieve full sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.
 
Support for Vietnam’s candidature at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) is under consideration by Mauritius, he affirmed.
