French President Emmanuel Macron pays Courtesy Call on President Gokhool

The President of the French Republic, His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., at the State House yesterday.
Discussions focused on the overall situation in Mauritius and France, as well as the major challenges and opportunities facing both countries.
Both Heads of State reviewed the longstanding cooperation between France and Mauritius, and explored avenues to further strengthen existing collaboration.
President Gokhool commended President Macron for his proactive leadership on global issues, notably in food security, energy policy, responsible AI development, and the promotion of national dialogue.
The President of the Republic of Mauritius also reiterated his commitment to advancing support for persons with special needs and welcomed France’s readiness to assist in health-related initiatives, including telemedicine.
The two leaders discussed the importance of preserving French historical patrimoine and shared cultural heritage in Mauritius.
President Gokhool recalled the history of the Chateau de Réduit – conceived in the mid-18th century by French Governor Barthélemy David and later restored by successive French governors – as a key symbol of French heritage on Mauritian soil.
An insignia ceremony was also held at the State House, in the presence of both dignitaries and the Hon. Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
• President Dharambeer Gokhool was elevated to the rank of Grand Officier de la Légion d’honneur.
• President Emmanuel Macron received the distinction of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (G.C.S.K.).
• The Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchadra Ramgoolam, was elevated to the rank of Grand-Croix de la Légion d’honneur.
The meeting reaffirmed the depth of the Mauritius-France partnership and the shared commitment to furthering cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
