The State House truly buzzed with pride, joy, and inspiration today as we hosted the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards- Mauritius’ Gold Awards Ceremony 2026.
This year marks a double milestone: 70 years of the Award worldwide and 60 years since its launch in Mauritius.
Heartfelt tribute to the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, whose vision continues to transform the lives of young people across generations.
In the presence of Hon. Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Karen Foo Kune-Bacha, Junior Minister, His Excellency Mr Goran Mandic, British Deputy High Commissioner, and other distinguished guests, I was deeply pleased to congratulate 129 outstanding Gold Awardees from 16 centres for their dedication, resilience, and commitment.
I was particularly happy to note that one of the Gold Awardees is also a laureate of the HSC 2025 batch, a fine illustration that true education is not merely academic excellence, but the harmonious development of intellect, character, values, leadership, and service to society.
True education goes beyond classrooms, certificates, and medals – it shapes values, character, purpose, and responsible citizenship.
My warmest congratulations to all awardees, and sincere appreciation to their parents, mentors, Award Leaders, volunteers, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their unwavering support and dedication.
Together, let us continue building a better, safer, and wiser Republic – As One People, As One Nation.
