




Her Excellency Ms. Erika Alvarez Rodriguez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Mauritius, presented her credentials to His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at State House today.
She was accompanied by Mr. Pedro Gomez, First Secretary.
During the meeting, the diplomatic ties between the two nations, formally established in 2003 and which have since been cordial, were reviewed.
Both sides also exchanged views on ways to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest, including tourism, climate change and resilience, culture, sports, manufacturing, and South-South cooperation.
President Gokhool warmly welcomed Ambassador Ms. Erika Alvarez Rodriguez’s proposal to explore the possibility of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in sectors such as tourism, education, commerce, and sports, as well as the idea of establishing a Joint Commission to deepen collaboration and people-to-people connectivity.
Her Excellency Ms. Erika Alvarez Rodriguez is a seasoned career diplomat and the first woman to serve as Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to South Africa and Mauritius, with residence in Pretoria.
During the meeting, President Gokhool and Ambassador Ms. Erika Alvarez Rodriguez highlighted the transformative role of diplomacy as a powerful instrument for advancing gender equality and peacebuilding.
