




The new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Mauritius and Seychelles, Ms. Alka Bhatia, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, today at State House.
During the meeting, President Gokhool and Ms. Bhatia reviewed existing collaboration between Mauritius and UNDP in key sectors such as trade, climate change, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, digitalisation of the health sector, and the transition to low-carbon electric public transport.
Ms. Bhatia brings with her over 35 years of leadership and expertise in poverty alleviation, trade, and sustainable development. She has been with UNDP since 2010, providing strategic policy advice to governments and UN Country Teams in Namibia, Lesotho, and Malawi.
Throughout her career, she has been a trusted advisor on sustainable development, leveraging her deep expertise to influence policy and strengthen international cooperation.
In this context, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely together and to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation in view of limited resources.
The importance of adhering to project timelines to ensure that initiatives bring tangible benefits to the country and its people, was reiterated.
