A joy to welcome two groups representing two pillars of our society – our youth and our senior citizens- at State House:
I welcomed the 2025 Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) Honorees, accompanied by representatives and the president of Junior Chamber International Mauritius (JCI), Mr. Nabiil Bhankarally, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Youth Council, for a courtesy visit.
Now in its 39th edition, the TOYP Programme continues to highlight the excellence and leadership of young Mauritians who are driving social, economic, cultural, scientific and humanitarian progress.
During our conversations, we reiterated the need for strong multistakeholder collaboration to empower our youth as active partners in nation-building.
I also received Mr. Armoogum Parsuramen, President of the University of the Third Age (Mauritius), together with Professor François Vellas, President of AIUTA and an eminent expert on ageing and senior-citizen policy.
Discussions focused on promoting active ageing, enhancing intergenerational connections, and reducing isolation and stigma among older persons.
We also reflected on initiatives that can strengthen research, lifelong learning and the social inclusion of senior citizens.
Together, we must build a Mauritius where every generation -young and old- contributes, feels valued, and thrives together.
