President Gokhool welcomed Ms. Jodie Matthews, Principal Consultant for International Education within the Department of Education of the Australian government, for a productive meeting at the State House yesterday.
She was accompanied by H.E. Ms. Kate Chamley, the Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius, and Mr. Rishi Nursimulu, Founder-Director of Dukesbridge School, among others.
Discussions underscored the value of the ongoing collaboration between the Governments of Mauritius and Australia in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and ways to integrate pressing global issues — including food insecurity, climate change, drug prevention, and the impact of new technologies — into school curricula to better equip the youth in overcoming them.
With High Commissioner Ms. Chamley, President Gokhool reviewed the longstanding ties between the two nations, as well as existing MoUs in key sectors like education, trade, and maritime security, while reaffirming the shared commitment to further cooperation in the blue economy sector.
President Gokhool also took note of Dukesbridge School’s continued efforts to promote resilience and awareness through creative expression and the Arts, with the school’s upcoming release of their new song this year after “Ansam”, released last year and which focused on anti-bullying.
