Golden Jubilee of the Old Age Pensioners Association

Today, I had the pleasure of joining the celebrations in Saint-Pierre to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Old Age Pensioners Association.

Fifty years of dedication, solidarity and service to our senior citizens is an extraordinary milestone that truly deserves to be celebrated. It was therefore a privilege for me to be present on this special occasion.

I pay sincere tribute to the founder, Guruji Kanchan Booleen, and his friends, who established the Association on 25 June 1976 with a vision that continues to inspire generations.

Thanks to the unwavering commitment of successive leaders and volunteers, the Association has grown into one of the oldest and largest organisations of its kind in Mauritius, bringing together more than 1,300 members across the island.

Beyond its many activities, the Association has remained true to its mission of solidarity by providing meaningful support to its members and their families. Notably, it offers a funeral grant of Rs 8,000 to the beneficiaries of its members, providing valuable assistance during times of loss.

My heartfelt congratulations go to the President, Mr Diswaraj Gangoo, the committee, and all the members and volunteers who continue to carry forward this remarkable mission with passion and dedication.

I wish the Old Age Pensioners Association many more years of success in bringing people together, supporting our senior citizens, and upholding the spirit of solidarity that has defined it for the past five decades.
