Africa Day 2025: A Celebration of Unity, A Call for Justice

In celebration of Africa Day 2025, President Dharambeer Gokhool hosted a reception at the State House on 03 June —a moment to reflect on the shared history, achievements, and the promise of a united and prosperous continent.

The reception was held in presence of: H.E Mr Robert Hungley, Vice President of the Republic; Hon’ Paul Berenger, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon’ Ritish Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional and International Trade, Hon’ Rajen Narsinghen, Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, H.E Mr. Albert Camille Vital, Dean of Diplomatic Corps; members of the Diplomatic Corp, and representatives of international organisations.

The African Union’s theme for 2025, ‘Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations’, carries profound significance for Mauritius as we achieved full sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia.

This year’s call for justice resonates deeply with Mauritius’ shared commitment to completing the process of decolonisation in a spirit of justice, dignity, and self-determination.

Mauritius extends its heartfelt gratitude to the African Union, its Member States, and to valued friends and partners across the world for their unwavering support throughout the enduring journey to complete the decolonisation of the Republic of Mauritius.

In his address, President Dharambeer Gokhool reiterate Mauritius’ pledge to work towards the Africa we want – one that is inclusive, equitable, and driven by its own people.

Let us move forward, together, towards an Africa that is whole, free, and healed,” he affirmed.
