Honoured to join the Middle Temple Association (Mauritius) today, in the presence of distinguished members of the legal profession, to congratulate and welcome the new Callees on their formal entry into this profession.
Their call to the Bar marks a significant milestone, one that must be guided by ethics and integrity.
I thank Mr Rashad Daureeawo, Senior Counsel, for his leadership in convening this important gathering.
It was particularly enriching to hear the insights shared by Former Chief Justice Mr Eddy Balancy on “Integrity of the Bar: Cornerstone of Justice” and by Mr Antoine Domaingue, Senior Counsel, on “Ethics at the Bar.”
Their reflections underline the vital role of ethics and integrity in sustaining public confidence in our legal system.
As President of the Republic and Guardian of our Constitution, I reflected on the unique responsibility of legal practitioners in upholding the Constitution, protecting democratic institutions, and ensuring that the rule of law is respected.
The Bar is not just a profession, but an institution that safeguards justice, fairness, and trust in our democracy.
I wish the new Callees every success as they embark on this important journey.
