

President Gokhool met with Professor Khalil Elahee, Chairperson of the Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA) and Chairperson of the Energy Efficiency Management Office, for a fruitful exchange today.
He was accompanied by Mr Ashkwin Rishi Budloo, Renewable Energy Development Officer.
Discussions focused the urgent need for a comprehensive renewable energy strategy for Mauritius.
Emphasis was placed on the transition towards green, clean, sustainable and resilient energy systems.
Conversations also centered on the need to chart a clear and structured roadmap to accelerate implementation.
It was agreed that a robust regulatory framework is urgently required, alongside the establishment of a National Renewable Energy Fund to ensure proper oversight.
President Gokhool also stressed on the importance of stronger inter-agency collaboration to ensure a coherent and coordinated action.
In this regard, enhanced cooperation between MARENA, Small-Scale Distributed Generation projects, the Development Bank of Mauritius, and the Utility Regulatory Authority was highlighted as essential to avoid fragmentation and to ensure more effective implementation of renewable energy initiatives nationwide.
