An honour to stand before the statue of Anjalay Coopen and pay my tribute to this young woman, whose courage and sacrifice continue to echo across generations.
She lost her life along with three other labourers, on 27th September 1943, at Belle Vue Harel.
She laid her life for liberty and human dignity.
A powerful reminder of the role that ordinary individuals, especially women, have played, and continue to play, in our shared mission of nation-building.
May her memory remain a lasting symbol of strength, resilience, and justice for all Mauritians.May the younger generation remember her as a woman of courage and conviction for a noble cause.
I extend my respect to the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation, all organisers, and all those who assembled to pay this tribute today.
