US Ambassador Pays Farewell Call on President Gokhool

His Excellency Mr Henry V. Jardine, Ambassador of the United States of America to Mauritius, paid a farewell call on His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, at State House this afternoon.
He was accompanied by Mr. Austin Lewis, Deputy Political-Economic Chief, and Ms. Beth Creason, Public Affairs Officer.
During the meeting, the long-standing and cordial bilateral relations between Mauritius and the United States, established in 1968, were reviewed.
Existing collaboration in key areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, as well as maritime security, were also reviewed.
President Gokhool highlighted the importance of enhanced cooperation and assistance in the field of disability empowerment and inclusion, particularly with regard to improving accessibility to public buildings for persons with disabilities.
Discussions also focused on the digitalisation of the civil service.
In this context, both sides noted that a virtual meeting between United States and Mauritian stakeholders had already been held, and expressed the hope that this engagement would be further strengthened going forward.
Progress on the construction of the new United States Embassy in Mauritius was welcomed, with both dignitaries viewing it as a strong symbol of the strategic partnership and enduring friendship between the two countries.
The forthcoming 18ᵗʰ US-Africa Business Summit, to be hosted in July this year in Mauritius, was also highlighted as another milestone reflecting the depth of bilateral relations.
President Gokhool conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Jardine for success in his future endeavours.
