VIP Screening of The Forgotten Story of Dookhee Gungah

His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, G.C.S.K., President of the Republic of Mauritius, attended the Grand Premiere of “The Forgotten Story of Dookhee Gungah” held at the Mauritius Telecom Campus.

The event brought together distinguished guests, creatives, historians, and innovators around a powerful national reflection: how the legacy of a quiet nation-builder continues to inspire Mauritius in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

Born into indentured labour in 1867, Dookhee Gungah devoted his life to education, empowerment, and social progress. Through this documentary and the accompanying Free Generative AI Masterclass, his story has been revived not only as a tribute to the past, but as a guide for the future.

In his address, His Excellency emphasised that the journey from indenture to intelligence represents more than progress — it reflects a deeper responsibility. In an era shaped by rapid technological change, he underscored the importance of preserving values, strengthening ethical foundations, and ensuring that innovation remains human-centred.

The initiative stands as a meaningful fusion of heritage and innovation, positioning Mauritius not only as a participant in the digital age, but as a nation capable of contributing thoughtfully to its direction.

The President also engaged with participants and stakeholders, commending efforts to empower creative professionals while safeguarding cultural identity in an evolving technological landscape.

This event marks an important step in reaffirming that Mauritius, rooted in its history, continues to move forward with vision, purpose, and unity.

As One People, As One Nation.
